Beth Debrecht
Born in Indiana, Beth has been a swimmer all her life. Her dad made sure she was in the water before she could walk. In college she got her WSI (Water Safety Instructor) certification and was a swimmer who taught swimming to others in the summers. After getting her Bachelors in Physical Education and Health, she was a physical education teacher in Indiana for 4 years before moving to south Florida where she continued to teach for 36 years in the school system. She was also a competitive swim & dive coach, a synchronized swimming coach, and summer swimming instructor.
She retired from teaching in the school system in 2018 when she moved to Birmingham. She has had many wonderful experiences with children and adults in the water, and she has wanted to write a children's book about learning to swim for several years. She loves teaching people about the “Magic of Water” and how it holds them up when they relax. Her goal has always been to make children safe and confident in the water. She believes in the importance of water safety and hopes her book can make children more comfortable with taking swim lessons and having fun in the water. Stay tuned for more about her upcoming illustrated children’s book, The Magic of Water.
