Elizabeth Knight Hubbard (affectionately known as “Lizzie the Lion”) is a passionate children’s book author, artist, and advocate for inclusion. Born with 96% hearing loss—discovered when she was about two years old—Elizabeth learned early how to navigate the world with a hearing aid and develop her speech. Her personal journey inspires her mission: to celebrate uniqueness and teach acceptance for people of all abilities.

Her upcoming children’s book shares some perspectives of kids with different disabilities, reminding young readers that we are all unique and beautiful in our own ways. Known for her outgoing nature, Elizabeth isn’t shy about sharing her own hearing challenges, and she’s often the first to stand up for others. She has a gift for spotting when someone is left out and making sure they feel included. Her greatest hope is that parents will encourage their children to widen their circles, because, as she says, “We can all learn so much from each other.”

A working artist based in Birmingham, Elizabeth teaches children’s art classes, workshops, and camps, and hosts adult workshops featuring guest artists and new mediums. She works in a variety of mediums, including raku pottery, painting, and collage.
